CANNONAU di SARDEGNA Enjoy a sip of Sardinia PRODUCTION SITES: Cannonau vines can be found especially in the most inner areas of the Island and particularly in the area called Ogliastra. The DOC has identified three smaller areas called Jerzu, Oliena and Capo Ferrato. COLOUR: Ruby red color with tones of violet. It tends to get orange tones with the ageing. AROMA: It is a full-bodied wine with hints of ripe red fruits. TASTE: Smooth, slightly tannic. It has a pleasant bouquet and a characteristic dry to palatable warm taste. PAIRINGS: Cannonau is perfect paired with meat based dishes such as braised meat, game and matured cheese. GRADATION: The common gradation is 13.5°. SERVING TEMPERATURE: The ideal temperature of serving is between 16 and 18 °C. AGEING: Cannonau might be qualified “Superior naturally dry” after a 2 years ageing and with a natural minimum alcoholic gradation of 15% and a quantity of sugar that mustn't exceed the 10 gr/l. It becomes a “Superior naturally amiable” with a minimum gradation of 14% of alcohol and a quantity of sugar ranging from 10 to 25 gr/l. After a three years ageing it can be qualified as Riserva. EVENTS: at the beginning of August in Jertzu the Wine Festival (Sagra del Vino) joyfully evokes the harvesting old rite. This festival points to promote the Cannonau wine linking it to the village's traditions. If you are a Cannonau lover you can't miss to visit the villages of Jerzu, Tortolì, Oliena e Mamoiada. |
