AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA

One of the best known in the world wine market

Amarone della Valpolicella is considered the most prestigious red wine from Veneto is one of the best known on the world wine market. In the united States Amarone overcame Brunello in the number of sold bottles. In 1968 this wine obtained the DOC (Controlled Denomination of Origin - Denominaizone di Origine Controllata) and its production is nowadays still considered a niche product.

PRODUCTION SITES:  Produced in the Valpolicella area close to the hills around Verona.  This area is quite ample and includes Negrar, Marano, Fumane, S.Ambrogio and  S.Pietro in Cariano.

COLOUR: Intense ruby-coloured with some golden reflexes.  It is a pretty rich and thick wine, with an evident astringency, that is balanced both by the evident roundness and by the remarkable alcoholic volume.

AROMA:  It smells of ripe fruit and jams of sour black cherries, raspberries and plums. In the aged one you can even smell musk and tobacco.

TASTE: A rich and intense wine quite soft even though it is alcoholically important.

PAIRINGS:  Perfect to pair with autumnal and wintry dishes such as braises, overcooked and roasted meat in general and game. Even though it is considered an important wine it is suitable to be drank alone after a meal.

GRADATION: Minimum gradation is 14° even though it goes between 15 and 16°. Do not forget to decant it at least 2 hours before serving!

SERVING TEMPERATURE: The ideal temperature is between 18 and 20 °C

GLASS: We recommend using a broad glass to allow the wine to oxygenate and emanate its flavour.

AGEING: The initial aging starts in durmast barrels and afterwards in barriques. A bottle well preserved can give its best even after 10 or 15 years!

EVENTS:  In spring and summer there are many wine festivals on the shores of Lake Garda where you can taste a good glass of Amarone della Valpolicella.
